What's the connection between lemon water and weight loss?  There's been a lot of hype about this water infusion.  Some say that drinking this will cause you to lose weight.  But does it?

The answer to this is that by itself, drinking lemon water does not cause weight loss.  This is not some kind of magic tonic that, when you drink it, your body becomes a fat-burning machine.  Nope.

However, if you drink lemon water instead of high-calorie drinks like soda, juice, and alcohol, you'll be imbibing less calories, and this is how you can lose weight.  You heard all about calories in, calories out, right?  Well, cutting unnecessary calories - like the ones in sugar-loaded beverages - is one way of ensuring that you burn more calories than you take in.

  • Reduces Bloating - your citrus drink is said to help reduce bloating; it's kind of a quick fix and any long term bloating should be investigated (causes of long-term bloating include carbonated  beverage intake, salt, eating too fast, and other habits.)
  • Boosts Your Vitamin C Intake - not by much, and this depends on how much fresh lemon juice you add to your water, but every little bit helps!
  • Makes Drinking Water Easier - some people don't like drinking plain water and dressing up your H2O a little bit (you can easily infuse other fruits!) can help you drink more during your day.

What To Watch Out for When Drinking Lemon Water 

If you begin drinking more lemon water and notice you begin to experience acid refllux and heartburn, cut back.  Lemon-infused water can make your symptoms worse.
